The article reports that Manhattan, New York Mall is staking it's future on piles of $10 varsity sweatshirts. The Herald Square vertical mall became home to the city's first Steve & Barry's University Sportswear last month. Store co-owner Barry Prevor says the Manhattan Mall location is already attracting as many as 25,000 shoppers on a good day. The International Council of Shopping Centers expects modest retail gains at best this season as more consumers shop online rather than going to a mall. That does not bode well for the urban mall, which has been struggling to become a destination shopping spot since it opened 15 years ago.
