Abstract

This article reports that real estate professionals in Chicago, Illinois say that homeowners are beginning to sell their properties and use the profits on rent. The strategy here is to wait for housing prices to decline to a more affordable level. Lawrence Yun, managing director of quantitative research at the National Association of Realtors in Washington, D.C., says that if housing prices continue to increase, they will be left out. From the second quarter of 2002 until the second quarter of this year, home prices in Chicago rose by about 11%.
