Abstract
- This article focuses on the segmentation of narrative prose as examined in the books A Journey to Arzrum, Safe Conduct, and Nights and Days, by Maria Dabrowska. All three works have to do with a linguistic model of reality and, consequently, with two structural axes: the paradigmatic and the syntagmatic. Dabrowska's novel is a classic example of narrative prose: proversa. Its fundamental principle is forward movement, which is needed to create the illusion of movement in time. It is no coincidence that in Nights and Days, almost no one reminisces or tells about their past. The novel therefore lacks reverse movement in time.
