Abstract
- The article reviews recent research that uses a normative model of public deliberation in the comparative empirical analysis of mass media content. A twofold relationship exists between normative claims and empirical knowledge. Normative claims serves as a heuristic for more comprehensive empirical studies. While, empirical knowledge serves to better understand the nature of obstacles to the realization of the norm. A proposal is developed for measuring deliberativeness of media content.
