Abstract

This study identifies discourses about Islam and Muslims in the 1798 Worcester Spy and the 1882 New York Times. Specifically, research was guided by the following questions: What are discourses about Islam and Muslims in the Worcester Spy's coverage of Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Egypt in 1798? What are discourses about Islam and Muslims in New York Times coverage of the 1882 British invasion of Egypt? The study aims to see how Islam and Muslims were talked about in these two newspapers in coverage of the two events.
