Abstract

This article features India-based towel producer Welspun. Running at capacity at the end of its fiscal year March 31, 2005, Welspun was producing $100 million worth of towels annually and is currently in the proves of increasing capacity by 2005. The company is already one of the top five towel producers in the world. It has set up a global-scale, state-of-the-art plant with the ability to produce six million bed sheets per year in a completely vertical operation. The company's largest customer is the U.S. representing 65% of its sales. The company runs a chain of retail stores called Spaces, and is ready to capitalize on the growth of the country's middle class. For the last five year, Welspun has focused its marketing efforts on working directly with retailers, developing a reputation for delivering quality product on time.
