Abstract

A study conducted at Shandong University in the People's Republic of China focused on the effects of cavitation on concrete pore structure and mechanical properties. The research utilized ultrasonic cavitation techniques to simulate bubble clusters collapsing on concrete surfaces. Findings showed an increase in porosity and a decrease in compressive strength of concrete samples after exposure to cavitation, leading to altered crack propagation patterns during compression testing. The study highlights the impact of cavitation on concrete structures and mechanical properties, using innovative techniques such as low-field nuclear magnetic resonance and acoustic emission technology.
