Abstract

Researchers from Shandong University of Technology in the People's Republic of China have developed an efficient pathway for biosynthesizing Bilirubin IX alpha (BR) in Escherichia coli, a Gram-Negative Bacteria. By overexpressing heme oxygenase (HO1) and biliverdin reductase (BvdR) and optimizing culture conditions, they achieved a BR titer of 62.1 mg/L in a 20 L bioreactor. This study paves the way for scalable production of BR in recombinant E. coli, offering potential health benefits in various conditions. [Extracted from the article]
