Abstract

A recent study from Jiangnan University in Wuxi, People's Republic of China, focused on addressing the decomposition of urea in aqueous formulations, hindering its broader application in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Researchers developed an effective cocrystal strategy involving anhydrous citric acid to stabilize urea, reducing its decomposition rate by over 10%. The study confirmed that this cocrystal approach did not compromise urea's moisturizing properties, as demonstrated through hyaluronidase inhibition assays. This research, supported by the Jiangsu Provincial Market Supervision Administration Science and Technology Plan Project, offers valuable insights into enhancing the utility of urea in various industries.
