Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Tehran University of Medical Sciences focused on the prevalence of Human T-cell Lymphotropic Virus type-1 (HTLV-1) among organ and tissue donors in Iran between 2014 and 2021. The study found that 3% of donors tested positive for HTLV-1, with a declining trend observed over the years. Females had a higher rate of infection compared to males, and circulatory death donors had a higher likelihood of HTLV-1 infection than brain death donors. The research highlights the importance of pre-transplant donor screening to prevent transmission of HTLV-1 during organ and tissue transplantation. [Extracted from the article]
