Abstract
- A study conducted by the University of Virginia Health System compared postoperative outcomes in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) who underwent living donor liver transplant (LDLT) versus deceased donor liver transplant (DDLT). The study found that LDLT recipients had lower mortality rates, lower creatinine levels, and lower calculated model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) scores compared to DDLT recipients. LDLT also showed higher patient survival rates at 1, 3, and 5 years post-transplant. The research concluded that LDLT for patients with MASH provides safe access to transplantation at an earlier disease stage with improved survival outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
