Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Penn State College of Medicine focused on the impact of different cardiopulmonary bypass perfusion modalities on cerebral hemodynamics and clinical outcomes in pediatric cardiac surgery patients with congenital heart disease. The study involved 159 patients who were randomized to either pulsatile or nonpulsatile bypass, stratified by acyanotic or cyanotic heart disease. Despite patients on pulsatile bypass showing a more physiologic pulsatility index, no significant differences in cerebral hemodynamics or clinical outcomes were observed between the two groups. This research provides valuable insights into the effects of different perfusion modalities in congenital heart surgery. [Extracted from the article]
