Abstract
- Researchers at Dartmouth College have focused on Clostridium thermocellum, a bacterium with potential for producing cellulosic biofuels. By engineering pyrophosphate-free glycolysis in this organism, they were able to increase ethanol production by 38%. This study demonstrates that optimizing the metabolic pathways through engineering can enhance product titers, although further improvements are needed for commercial applications. The research was funded by the Center For Bioenergy Innovation and published in Biotechnology for Biofuels and Bioproducts. [Extracted from the article]
