Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Harokopio University in Athens, Greece, explored the effects of resveratrol, tyrosol, and their derivatives on platelet-activating factor biosynthesis in U937 cells. The research found that resveratrol and its methoxy derivative reduced PAF biosynthetic enzymes' activity, while tyrosol did not have a substantial effect. Additionally, lower concentrations of resveratrol and higher concentrations of the methoxy derivative increased lyso-PAF acetyltransferase activity via p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase action. The study sheds light on the potential protective effects of wine and olive oil phenolic compounds in atherosclerotic diseases. [Extracted from the article]
