Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Extremadura in Caceres, Spain, focused on identifying changes in the endometrial proteome in mares with bacterial endometritis (BE) to potentially develop uterine biomarkers for this condition. The research aimed to uncover the molecular mechanisms involved in equine endometritis and pinpoint proteins with biomarker potential for diagnosis and treatment. The study identified 38 proteins that were differentially abundant in mares with endometritis compared to healthy mares, with some proteins related to the innate immune system and antimicrobial peptides. The findings suggest potential alternative treatments to antibiotics for BE in mares. [Extracted from the article]
