Abstract
- Researchers from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, have identified the eIF4F translation initiation complex as a key player in melanoma resistance to BRAF and MEK inhibitors. Their study reveals that eIF4F negatively regulates the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK MAPK signaling pathway in melanoma cells with BRAF or NRAS mutations. By disrupting this feedback control mechanism, small-molecule eIF4F inhibitors could potentially lead to hyperactivation of ERK signaling in melanomas with these mutations. This research, supported by various funding sources, sheds light on the critical role of eIF4F in controlling ERK signaling intensity in melanoma cells. [Extracted from the article]
