Abstract

A study conducted at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, explored the rare association between a symptomatic cervical arachnoid cyst and idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). The research involved a 71-year-old man who underwent surgical treatment for the cyst but ultimately required a lumbar puncture shunt and a ventriculoperitoneal shunt to alleviate symptoms. The findings suggest that early diagnosis of IIH in cases of spinal arachnoid cysts can lead to more effective treatment with cerebrospinal fluid diversion, reducing the need for repeated hospital admissions and surgical interventions.
