Abstract

Researchers from the Kenya Medical Research Institute conducted a study on Salmonella Typhi isolates from typhoid fever patients with gallstones in Kenya. The study aimed to identify genetic differences in S. Typhi isolates from asymptomatic carriers. Findings revealed point mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining region and differences in biofilm formation between multidrug-resistant and non-multidrug-resistant isolates. This research sheds light on the genetic variations and antimicrobial resistance genes in S. Typhi during asymptomatic carriage. [Extracted from the article]
