Abstract

A study conducted at the University of Ghana assessed the diagnostic accuracy of the Typhidot RDT test kit for typhoid fever in Southern Ghana. The research found that the sensitivity and specificity of the Typhidot test compared to blood and stool cultures were 35% and 45%, respectively. The study also revealed resistance to common antibiotics in some Salmonella enterica isolates. The findings suggest sub-optimal performance of the Typhidot RDT for diagnosing typhoid fever in Ghana, highlighting the potential for misdiagnosis and misuse of antibiotics.
