Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia, focused on the molecular characterization of the VP1 gene during a foot and mouth disease virus outbreak in East Java in 2022. The research aimed to determine the genotype and amino acid content of viral proteins, identifying the FMDV subtype as O/ME-SA/Ind2001e. The study highlighted the importance of surveillance and whole-genome sequence analyses for monitoring FMDV genetics in Indonesia, emphasizing the impact of less stringent animal traffic control measures on the spread of the virus in Southeast Asia.
