Abstract

Research from the National University of Science and Technology in Bucharest, Romania, focuses on improving the properties of medical devices materials, specifically urinary catheters, to reduce nosocomial infections. The study involved preparing nine different composites based on polyvinyl chloride with various plasticizers and antimicrobial additives. Results showed reduced plasticizer migration and improved biocompatibility with the use of antimicrobial additives, suggesting potential for further catheter development and clinical trials. The study's findings are detailed in the journal article "New Antimicrobial Materials Based on Plasticized Polyvinyl Chloride for Urinary Catheters: Preparation and Testing."
