Abstract

A new study from Konya, Turkey, introduces a novel approach using a polymer-tipped cannula for the removal of metallic foreign bodies that fully penetrate the cornea. The technique involves gently pushing the foreign body towards the epithelial side to prevent damage to the corneal endothelial layer. This method was successfully performed on five patients, with no significant loss of corneal endothelial cells postoperatively. The research highlights the importance of this ab interno approach in effectively removing deeply penetrating corneal foreign bodies while minimizing endothelial damage. [Extracted from the article]
