Abstract

A study conducted at South China Agricultural University focused on the evolution and maintenance of a large multidrug-resistant plasmid in Salmonella enterica Typhimurium under varying antibiotic selection pressures. The research highlighted the adaptation and evolution mechanisms of multidrug-resistant plasmids with their hosts, emphasizing the impact of different drug treatments on plasmid modifications and antibiotic resistance. The findings suggested that plasmid-borne multidrug-resistant region deletion and chromosomal mutations contributed to co-adaptation and co-evolution between the plasmid and Salmonella Typhimurium. This study sheds light on the complex dynamics of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and the role of plasmids in this process. [Extracted from the article]
