Abstract

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania recently published a study on the effects of the antiretroviral drug dolutegravir on human embryonic cortical development. The study found that exposure to dolutegravir impaired the structure and neurogenesis in a forebrain organoid model. This research highlights the importance of understanding how drugs may impact the developing human brain, particularly in pregnant populations receiving antiretroviral therapy. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and provides valuable insights into potential teratogenic effects of antiretroviral drugs on the central nervous system.
