Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital in Nigeria focused on the use of Hand-held Doppler (HHD) in assessing thoracodorsal artery perforators. The research found that HHD can achieve 100% specificity in detecting perforators when a perforator compression test is applied. The study included 70 patients, with HHD identifying 247 perforators, resulting in a sensitivity of 86.3% and a positive predictive value of 51.4%. The researchers concluded that while the sensitivity of HHD was high, the positive predictive value was lower compared to other studies, indicating a lower probability of finding perforators intraoperatively for patients with positive HHD signals.
