Abstract

Researchers at Philipps-Universitat Marburg conducted a study to explore the feasibility of using digital image processing to predict corneal penetration of curcumin formulations. Various formulation strategies were tested, with cyclodextrins showing the deepest penetration in both dermal and corneal models. The study suggests that the image analysis method developed for ex vivo skin penetration can be repurposed for studying corneal penetration of hydrophobic drugs. Financial support for the research was provided by various organizations, including Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst Deutschland and Health Research Council of New Zealand.
