Abstract

Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine have found that women are more susceptible to hypertension during the transition to menopause, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Using an animal model of peri-menopause, they discovered that hypertension in females is associated with changes in NMDA receptor distribution in the brain. The study suggests that estrogen receptor beta agonists may play a role in regulating blood pressure in females during early ovarian failure. This research provides new insights into the sex-dependent mechanisms of hypertension in women. [Extracted from the article]
