Abstract

A study conducted at Marche Polytechnic University in Ancona, Italy, focused on the significance of Hounsfield Units (HU) in predicting outcomes in retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) using Holmium and Thulium fiber lasers for ureteroscopy procedures. The research found that stone size, lower pole stones (LPS), and the type of laser used were predictors of residual fragments (RF) after RIRS, regardless of stone density. The study concluded that HU should be considered an important parameter in predicting stone-free rates (SFR) postoperatively. The findings were published in the World Journal of Urology and have been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
