Abstract

Researchers from University Hospital RWTH Aachen conducted a study on thrombosis, focusing on predicting clot formation within an oxygenator using bioimpedance analysis. The study aimed to improve monitoring techniques for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) by integrating sensor fibers within the oxygenator. Results showed that bioimpedance measurements could detect clot growth earlier than the clinical gold standard method, highlighting the potential for bioimpedance to enhance clot detection in medical devices. The study was funded by the German Research Foundation and the Start-program of The Faculty of Medicine of The Rwth Aachen University. [Extracted from the article]
