Abstract

A recent study conducted at Shandong University in Jinan, People's Republic of China, focused on the modeling and verification of cortical bone drilling forces based on tissue structure heterogeneity. The research established a drilling force model for modified drills with thinned chisel edges, incorporating bone mineral density to predict axial thrust force changes during drilling. The study found that the modified drill design significantly reduced average thrust force and roughness of the hole wall compared to common drill bits, improving drilling performance. This peer-reviewed research provides valuable insights into optimizing cortical bone drilling processes and drill geometry. [Extracted from the article]
