Abstract
- MMP-8 protein, osteoblast cells, and osteoclasts are markers of bone remodeling. Combining α-mangostin with hyperbaric oxygen therapy can enhance bone regeneration during orthodontic retraction. The aim of the research is to assess the alveolar cell bone and MMP-8 expression for bone remodeling in endodontic retraction after α-mangostin administration and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Short (orthodontic) elastomeric chain retraction was performed on 25 model animals over a 28-day period. The osteoblast and osteoclast bone cells were then stained with H and E, and immunohistochemistry was used to detect MMP-8 protein. The α-mangosteen, hyperbaric oxygen, and combination therapy group improved alveolar bone repair by increasing osteoblast cells and decreasing osteoclast cells, which corresponded to bone formation of matrix and an increase in MMP- 8 protein. α-mangosteen therapy or in combination with hyperbaric oxygen therapy improved MMP-8 protein expression in alveolar bone after orthodontic retraction, resulting in balanced generation of osteoblast and osteoclast cells.
