Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers from Federal University Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, aimed to evaluate the relationship between volatile sulfur compounds (VSC), biofilm, salivary parameters, and periodontal status in patients with and without periodontal disease. The study included 64 subjects diagnosed with periodontitis and 60 periodontally healthy individuals. The researchers found that there were no statistically significant differences in VSC concentrations, salivary flow rate, spinnability of saliva, and plaque index between the two groups. However, the periodontitis group showed a significant tongue coating index and a diminished tooth count. The study concluded that bleeding on probing, clinical attachment level, and probing depth may contribute to VSC formation. [Extracted from the article]
