Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers at Xinjiang University in Urumqi, China, examined the mechanical properties of cortical bone using nanoindentation. The study found that the elastic modulus and hardness of cortical bone varied significantly across different anatomical regions and bearing surfaces. The anterior and medial sides had significantly greater elastic modulus and hardness compared to the posterior and lateral sides. Additionally, the elastic modulus was higher in the axial direction compared to the radial direction, and there was a positive correlation between elastic modulus and hardness. The study concluded that the stresses in the axial direction of cortical bone exceeded those in the radial direction. This research provides new insights into the mechanical behavior of cortical bone and was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. [Extracted from the article]
