Abstract

A recent systematic review conducted by researchers at the University of Porto examined the relationship between food habits, nutritional status, and hormone therapy among transgender adults. The review analyzed 27 studies with a total of 8,827 participants and found that transgender individuals undergoing hormone therapy had varied nutritional statuses, with body mass index (BMI) being the most commonly referenced parameter. The review also identified high levels of food insecurity, restricted eating behaviors, and imbalanced diets among this population. The researchers concluded that further research is needed to better understand the relationship between hormone therapy, nutritional status, and food habits in transgender individuals.
