Abstract

A study conducted by Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine investigated the therapeutic effects of the uncultured adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) on osteoarthritis (OA) in immunodeficient rats. The SVF, consisting of adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) and M2 macrophages (M2PH), showed slower OA progression, less synovitis, and higher expression of collagen II and SOX9 compared to the control and ADSC groups. The study suggests that the M2PH in the transplanted SVF directly affected recipient tissue, enhancing the secretion of growth factors and chondrocyte-protecting cytokines, making the SVF an effective option for regenerative therapy for OA.
