Abstract
- A recent report from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus discusses the findings of a study on acne fulminans (AF), a severe form of inflammatory acne commonly found in adolescents. AF is characterized by painful nodules and plaques that can progress to suppurative, ulcerative, and hemorrhagic lesions. The exact cause of AF is unknown, but it has been linked to certain medications and autoinflammatory syndromes. The most common presentation of AF is seen in adolescents starting isotretinoin therapy. The main treatment for AF is a combination of prednisone and isotretinoin, and early identification and treatment are crucial to minimize symptoms and scarring. Further research is needed to determine optimal management. [Extracted from the article]
