Abstract

The article discusses the efforts being made in Georgia to address workforce shortages and provide alternative post-secondary career pathways. It highlights the need for qualified workers in industries such as advanced manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, transportation, logistics, and healthcare. The Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Joint Development Authority commissioned a workforce study to identify labor supply challenges and develop initiatives to meet demand. The study revealed issues such as access to education and training, lack of transit options, and affordable housing as barriers to sustainable growth and workforce participation. Efforts are being made to tap into military talent and retain personnel and their spouses in the region. The article also discusses specific efforts by Fort Stewart, Gulfstream, and A. G. Rhodes to address workforce needs in Georgia, as well as grants received to support tech-based economic development and workforce training. [Extracted from the article]
