Abstract

A study conducted at Pusan National University Hospital in South Korea aimed to evaluate the use of respiratory muscle strength in screening for sarcopenia among older men. The study involved male patients aged 65 years and older who underwent measurements of respiratory muscle strength, hand grip strength, and muscle mass. The analysis of the study participants revealed cut-off values for sarcopenia screening based on respiratory muscle strength. The researchers concluded that even when hand grip strength and muscle mass measurements are not feasible, sarcopenia can be reasonably predicted based on respiratory muscle strength.
