Abstract
- Researchers from the University of Pavia in Italy have conducted a study on the use of metakaolin-based geopolymers for removing organic contaminants from polluted water through adsorption. The researchers tested the removal of two model molecules, ofloxacin and cortisone, and found that the substrates had a greater affinity for ofloxacin. Different adsorption mechanisms were observed for the two molecules, with the antibiotic exhibiting a monolayer mechanism and the steroid exhibiting a cooperative mechanism. The study concluded that satisfactory drug recoveries were achieved under realistic conditions. [Extracted from the article]
