Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Brooklyn aimed to determine if cumulative organ function for more than 90 years is possible for transplanted kidneys and livers. The study included kidney and liver transplants from living or deceased donors aged 55 years and older. The findings showed that while only 2.7% of kidney grafts reached the 90-year cumulative organ function mark, 16.6% of liver grafts did. The study concluded that age alone should not exclude older kidney and liver donors from consideration for transplantation. [Extracted from the article]
