Abstract

A recent study conducted at Guangxi Medical University in China explored the synthesis of 11-oxygenated androgens, which are important hormones. The researchers analyzed gene expression and quantified enzyme levels in various human tissues. They found that the enzymes HSD11B2 and AKR1C3 were highly expressed in the kidneys and intestines, with expression levels varying by age and gender. The study provides valuable insights into the synthesis of these androgens in peripheral tissues and their potential role in humans. The findings have been published in the European Journal of Endocrinology and can be accessed online. [Extracted from the article]
