Abstract
- A study conducted at the University of the South in Tampa, Florida, explored the effects of beta-adrenoceptor agonists on human lung endothelial cell barrier function. The researchers found that epinephrine, norepinephrine, and phenylephrine enhanced normal barrier function and prevented impairment caused by thrombin exposure. These effects were mediated through specific adrenoceptor subtypes. In an animal model, low-dose epinephrine administration protected lung vascular barrier function after traumatic hemorrhagic shock. The findings suggest that beta-adrenoceptor agonist treatment may have potential therapeutic benefits for lung vascular barrier dysfunction. [Extracted from the article]
