Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea, has explored the potential of a new drug delivery system for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory condition that can lead to colon cancer. The study focused on a poly(maleic anhydride)-sirolimus conjugate, which demonstrated extended retention in the large intestine and reduced inflammation in a mouse model of colitis. The findings suggest that this drug delivery system could offer a promising therapeutic option for UC treatment, potentially improving outcomes for individuals with inflammatory bowel diseases.
