Abstract

This article reports that some security advocates are complaining that building the sea-borne liquid natural gas terminal in the middle of Long Island Sound would be tantamount to handing terrorists a match and a $700 million powder keg. To hear some environmentalists tell it, Broadwater would be the opening wedge in the "industrialization" of the Long Island Sound. The proposal calls for a floating storage and re-gasification unit the size of a cruise ship to be moored near the middle of the Sound, about nine miles from the Long Island shore.
