Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Wake Forest University School of Medicine explored the relationship between body composition and weakness and fatigue in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). The study found that lower skeletal muscle index (SMI) was significantly associated with preoperative weakness in females with PHPT, but not in males. Additionally, the study suggested that the effects of parathyroid hormone on skeletal muscle and visceral adiposity may differ by sex. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of weakness and fatigue in PHPT patients. [Extracted from the article]
