Abstract
- A study conducted by the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, explored the use of lipid-based gels for the delivery of 3-O-ethyl L-ascorbic acid (ETVC) in topical applications. The study compared two lipid gel systems: a hydrogel consisting of lipids and water, and a bigel combining the hydrogel with an oleogel made from olive oil and beeswax. The results showed that the bigel exhibited slower ETVC release compared to the hydrogel, and the presence of lipids in the formulations enhanced ETVC retention in the skin. The study also found that the ETVC gels exhibited antioxidant activity. These findings provide valuable insights into the potential of lipid-based gels for topical applications.
