Abstract
- Researchers at California State University have published a report on the photodegradation of tylosin tartrate, a macrolide antibiotic. Tylosin tartrate is an emerging contaminant that is difficult to remove from natural bodies of water using conventional treatment processes. The study analyzed the direct and indirect photodegradation of tylosin tartrate, specifically examining the role of reactive oxygen species and organic matter in surface waters. The research found that the addition of hydrogen peroxide or the usage of the photo-Fenton process resulted in greater degradation, and combining tylosin tartrate with an optimal concentration of humic acid increased the overall degradation. The study also measured the reaction rate constants for tylosin tartrate with singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical, finding that the hydroxyl radical contributed significantly more to the degradation. This research has been peer-reviewed and provides valuable insights into the photodegradation of tylosin tartrate. [Extracted from the article]
