Abstract

This article discusses the fundamentals of insulin resistance and cellular metabolism. It explains that nutrient and oxygen uptake are essential for cellular metabolism and that metabolic demand controls various aspects of cellular function. The article highlights the role of glucose resistance in protecting cells against glucose overconsumption and oxidative stress, but also notes that it can become pathological in both insulin-independent and insulin-dependent cells. The article further explores the impact of glucose resistance on red blood cells and its potential effects on oxygen transport and blood glucose levels. It concludes by mentioning the role of insulin in regulating glucose uptake, glycogen storage, and fat conversion. Please note that this article has not undergone peer review.
