Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Shandong University in Jinan, China, has found that the protein NONO plays a role in vascular calcification, a process associated with conditions such as atherosclerosis, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. The researchers observed that NONO expression was decreased in calcified arteries of mice and patients with chronic kidney disease. They also found that NONO deficiency exacerbated vascular calcification in mice, while NONO overexpression had a protective effect. The study suggests that NONO may be a promising target for the prevention and treatment of vascular calcification. [Extracted from the article]
