Abstract
- New research from the University of California has found that aging delays the suppression of lipolysis, the breakdown of fats, in the postprandial period, which is the period after a meal. The study compared young and older participants and found that the rate of lipolysis decreased significantly later in older participants compared to younger participants. Additionally, the study found that fatty acid oxidation, the process of using fats for energy, was favored over carbohydrate oxidation in older participants. These findings suggest that aging affects the regulation of fat metabolism after meals. [Extracted from the article]
